Abstract

  Background and Objective: The Professional burnout is one of the main factors in efficiency decline, loss of human power and psycho physical problems. ­In regard to the importance of nurses’ role in health system, the aim of this study was to compare the Professional burnout of nurses in different wards of Shahid Ansari Hospital in Roodsar.

  Material and Methods: In this comparative research study, the subjects(N=100)were selected, via Morgan table sampling , among 128 nurses worked in the wards such as Women Internal Medicine, CCU, Pediatrics, Men Internal Medicine, Midwifery, Operation Room andEmergency. The data collected by ­­Maslach Professional burnout was analyzed by Spss-18 software.

  Results: ­ The nurses’ professional burn out was assessed in three aspects of emotional exhaustion, depersonalization and personal accomplishment. The emergency room’s nurses have the highest emotional exhaustion and depersonalization (P=0.001) and personal accomplishment (P=0.001).

  Conclusion: ­ Regarding the high amount of Professional burnout in emergency room, we recommend providing the necessary educations and facilities to promote the condition.

Abstract

Background and objective: Burnout is one of the key factors in reducing efficiency and‌ it causes loss‌ of manpower and physical complications‌.‌ Personality characteristics such as resiliency is abuffer against stressful events and work-related psychological problems such as burnout.‌ Given the important role of nurses in health-care‌‌system , this study ‌investigates The relationship between resiliency and burnout in nurses.
Material and Methods: This descriptive study was conducted on 304 nurses working in the hospitals in Tehran,‌ ‌‌2010.‌ The subjects were chosen by multi-stage cluster sampling.‌ The instruments were Maslach burnout inventory (MBI), Connor-Davidson Resiliency Scale (CD-RISC) and a demographic check-list. The data was analyzed by SPSS-18.
Results:‌‌ Overall, the findings showed high emotional exhaustion, (32.6% in frequency 9.9% in intensity),‌ ‌depersonalization (25.7% in frequency 18.1% in severity) and personal failure (42.1% in frequency ‌60.9% in severity). ‌The relationship between burnout and resiliency‌ was significant (0.01‌).
Conclusion: Given the resiliency is one of the predictors of burnout we recommend some workshops to increase the resiliency-related skills of the nurses.

Abstract

Background and Objective: Burnout has negative effects on nurses' health, and also onpatients’ satisfaction and safety. This study was conducted to determine the relationship between Burnout and nurses' job characteristics in teaching and therapeutic hospitals affiliated to Golestan university of medical sciences. 
Material and Methods: In this descriptive-analytical study, 206 nurses who engaged in the teaching and therapeutic centers of Golestan university of medical sciences were selected via random sampling. The data was collected by demographic data sheet and Copenhagen burnout questionnaire and analyzed by descriptive statistical, logistic Regression. 
Results: The mean age was 34.66±7.38 and 68% of the participants were female. Overall, 34% of the nurses had burnout. The prevalence of personal, work-related and client-related burnout was 33.5%, 41.3% and 22.3%, respectively. Age, job experience and type of employment were the risk factors of personal, work and client-related burnout. Being supervisor, working in the psychiatric ward and having private job, were the causes of increased personal burnout. 
Conclusion: In line with the increase of age and job experience increasing, the officials should pay more attention to burnout, and in some ward of the hospitals and job positions, they need considering a unique career planning.

Abstract

Background and Objective: Mental health is one of essential needs that has a critical role in sustainable development.  Burnout , a physical and mental fatigue and a sense of reduced capabilities, is a leading factor in lowering mental health efficiency .this study aimed at determining the relationship between burnout and mental health in  Al –E-Jalil hospital`s staff.

Material and Methods: This descriptive - analytical research was conducted on 179 Al–E-Jalil hospital`s staff recruited via Census method in 2014. The data was collected by mental health questionnaire (G.H.Q-28) and Burnout (Maslach) questionnaires, and analyzed by kruskal Wallis, Mann-Whitney and Spearman correlation.

Results: Significant relationship between mental health and burnout (P=0.0001, r=-0.844) showed that mental health enhancement  reduced the level of  burn out. The mean mental health (19.28± 10.77)  was excellent . Two domains of “somatization" and "depression and suicidal tendencies" were better than "social dysfunction" and "anxiety and sleep disorders". The highest mean was related to  "Depersonalization" and "emotional exhaustion"  and the lowest one to " personal accomplishment".

Conclusion: The findings show that there is  a negative significant relationship between mental health and burnout that means by enhancing mental health the staff experiences lower level of  burn out.

Abstract

Background: Nurses are responsible for maintaining and improving the health and quality of life of patients. Therefore, it is important to assess the quality of life of nurses in order to improve it. Quality of life is affected by many variables  and among them burnout, perceived social support and psychological hardiness are the leading ones. This study aimed at predicting the quality of life of nurses based on job burnout, perceived social support and psychological hardiness.

Methods: This cross-sectional study was carried out on nurses working in governmental hospitals in Tehran , 2015. Four-hundred nurses were selected by multistage cluster sampling. The instruments were burnout, perceived social support, psychological hardiness and quality of life questionnaires. The data was analyzed using Pearson correlation and multiple regression model simultaneously.

 Results: The results showed that the burnout and quality of life of  the nurses had a significant and negative relationship (r=-0.39) and  the perceived social support (r =0.61) and psychological hardiness (r =0.45) had a positive and significant correlation with quality of life of nurses (P<0.01). In a predictive model of burnout, perceived social support and psychological hardiness could predict 59.3 percent of the changes in quality of life (R2=0.593).

Conclusion: According to the results, it is suggested that nursing executives, counselors, therapists and policy makers pay attention to the signs and the effects of  these variables , and conduct some  appropriate  programs for improving the quality of life of nurses.
