Abstract

Background and Objective: Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is an important risk factor for cardiovascular disorders. The aim of this study was to determine the frequency of OSA in myocardial infarction patients in the CCU of Karaj Hospitals, 2009.
Material and Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted , via convenience sampling , on 140 acute myocardial infarction patients in two cardiac care units of Shariati and Rajaei hospital in Karaj, 2009. We assessed demographic data, history of cardiovascular risk factors, STOP-Bang questionnaire through interview, information related to the type of myocardial infarction and laboratory parameters from medical records, and also we measured anthropometric indices with balance scale and meter tap.
Results: Mean score of STOP-BANG questionnaire was 4.9 ± 1.2 in the range of 2 to 8 points and in 64% of the participants was higher than 4 points. The Score of STOP-BANG questionnaire was statistically significant considering age, smoking, hypertension, dyslipidemia, extensive infarction, BMI, waist-to-height ratio, Waist to Hip Ratio, Waist Circumference, neck circumference, cholesterol and left ventricular ejection fraction (P=0.001), sex (P=0.044), Diabetes(P=0.019), inferior infarction (P=0.006), anterior wall (P=0.048) and triglyceride levels (P=0.031).
Conclusion: OSA is common among patients with myocardial infarction and is associated with anthropometric indices, cardiovascular risk factors, the location of infarction and left ventricular ejection fraction. Thus, Screening, evaluating the symptoms of OSA and referring for counseling and treatment is necessary.

Abstract

Background and Objective: Attitude toward the use of drug has an effective role in tendency to the use and withdrawal of the drug.  This study aimed to determine the predictive role of demographic factors and personality attitudes towards the impacts, risks and Substance Abuse in the students of Azad University, Damghan Branch.

Material and Methods: This descriptive-analytic study was conducted on 200 students via convenience sampling. The  data  was collected  by Delavar Addiction  Questionnaire and NEO personality inventory , and analyzed by  Pearson correlation coefficient and multiple  regression analysis.

Results: Accordance with regression analysis, eight factors of conscientiousness, openness to experiences, neuroticism, Agreeableness, gender, household income, parental education, and age can significantly predict 41% of the variance related to the attitude toward the effects of drug. Furthermore, agreeableness, conscientiousness, neuroticism can predict 35% of the variance referring to the attitudes about the dangers of drug.

Conclusion: It can be concluded that personality characteristics, marital status and income can play  a decisive role in people's attitudes towards drugs.

Abstract

Background and objectives: Chronic renal failure has a progressive nature and there is always a need for a person to care for them. A caregiver, who is usually a patient's family member, may face many problems during the care process, which ultimately causes burnout. The aim of this study is to determine the effect of psycho-educational intervention on the caregiver burden of patients undergoing hemodialysis.
Methods: This study was a clinical trial that carry out on 105 caregivers of patients undergoing hemodialysis. The burnout questionnaire of Zarit was completed by the participants. The Caregivers were allocated randomly in two groups of intervention (discussion, workshops) and control. Two weeks after the completion of 6 sessions of the group discussion and 4 sessions of the workshop, caregiver burdon questionnaire of Zarit was completed again. Data was analyzed by using version 16 of spss software and parametric and non-parametric tests.
Results: Results showed that there was no significant difference between the three groups before intervention in the mean scores of burden (p=0.423). However, after the intervention there was significant difference in the mean scores of burden between intervention groups with control group (p<0.001). Tukey post hoc test showed no significant difference between the two intervention groups in the mean scores of burden (P=0.204).
Conclusion: The results of this study can be found that training classes such as group discussion had a significant reduction in the severity of caregiver burden. Therefore, it is recommended that in the health system planning attend to the role of family members in the treatment of these patients also benefit from this training method.

Abstract

Background: The necessity of nurses’ cultural awareness in the caring process has been emphasized; however, there is a need to define this concept clearly; so the aim of this study was to clarify the cultural awareness concept in the nursing context.
Methods: in this qualitative study, a concept analysis using 6-steps Rodgers’s evolutionary method (Determining the intended concept and the related terms, selecting the appropriate domain for data gathering, determine attributes, antecedents, and consequences of the concept, data analysis, stating examples and generate a  hypothesis) was adopted based on thematic analysis. The articles published in English and Persian language from 2005 to 2019 were searched and then analyzed.
Results: The 6 attributes of cultural awareness include “being a prerequisite to cultural competence, a dynamic and progressive process; having learning potential; being multidimensional; and including self-awareness and awareness about the service user”. Antecedents for cultural awareness consist of global diversity, cultural teaching, developing cultural skills, cultural immersion, and organizations supporting cultural awareness, and researches. Cultural competence or effectiveness, constructive intercultural interaction, and improvement of health outcomes are the consequences of cultural awareness. A definition of cultural awareness was proposed.
Conclusion: In today's global diversity, providing suitable infrastructure (including cultural teaching, development, immersion, and researches) can lead to cultural awareness that is a dynamic multidimensional process of self and service user awareness that causes constructive intercultural interaction, cultural competence, and improvement of health outcomes. So, it is suggested to providing the infrastructures and do more studies related to the development of this concept.
