Abstract

Background and Objectives: Emergency contraception methods used in a specilic time after an unprotected intercourse can reduce the incidence of unwanted pregnancy. Considering the role of health care provider's intercourse can extremely reduce the incidence of unwanted pregnancy, Considering the role of health- care providers in preventing unintended pregnancy, we decided to assess their knowledge, Attitude and Practice about emergency contraceptive methods in Shahr-e-kord, Irun.
Material and Methods: The subjects of this descriptive study were 102 lealth care providers engaged in all heath centers (N=9) and Hajar hospital of shahr-e-kord. After collecting the data by a researcher- made questionnaire, we used Chi-square and Pearson correlation coefficient to analyze the data
 Results: The results show that their knowledge of emergency contraceptive methods is inadequate (5.9%), moderate (37.3 %) and adequate (59.9%). Their attitude (80%) is positive and believe that these methods can not be considered abortion. More than 70% of them try to recommend these methods to the women. There is signilicant correlation between the level of knowledge and education level (P=0.002).

Abstract

Background and Objective: Primary dysmenorrhea is one of the most common complaints among women in reproductive age in that about half of young women suffer from dysmenorrhea. Nowadays, many people have a tendency to use a traditional medicine for dysmenorrhea. Hence, we aimed to compare the analgesic effect of Agnogol and Mefenamic acid in the treatment of primary dysmenorrhea. 

Material and Methods: This clinical trial was conducted on 44 women with primary dysmenorrhea referred to Hajar hospital in Shahrekord. The participants were randomly allocated to two groups of Agnogol (n=23) to use one 3.2 mg Agnogol pill for three times a day and Mefenamic Acid (n=21) to use 250 mg Mefenamic acid every 8 hours a day for three days. The pain severity was detected by Visual Analogue Scale. We used Independent and Paired t test for comparing the means of quantitative variables and Chi Square for qualitative variables ( P<0.05 ). 
Results: Considering age, menstrual duration, menstrual interval, and pain severity score, there was no significant difference in two groups at the beginning of the study (P>0.05). After intervention, a significant reduction was found in the mean of pain score over time in both Agnogol (P<0.001) and Mefenamic acid (P<0.001) groups, but the difference between two groups was not significant (P>0.05). 
Conclusion: Given the same effect of Agnogol in mitigating dysmenorrhea, we recommend it as an appropriate alternative for Mefenamic acid.

Abstract

Background: Poisoning is a common cause of hospitalization in intensive care units (ICU). The present study aimed to investigate   the frequency of poisoning leading to hospitalization in the intensive care units of an educational hospital, Golestan University of Medical Sciences, in Gorgan in 2008-2018.
Methods: This cross-sectional study conducted on patients with acute poisoning admitted to the ICUs of 5 Azar Hospital in Gorgan from 20 March 2008, to 20 March 2018. We collected data from all patients' medical record using a checklist.  Data was presented in proportions, mean and standard deviation.
Results: All of 631 patients with poisoning were admitted to the ICUs were male (61.3%) and 40.3% were in the age range of 20-29 years. The mean length of hospital stay in the ICU was 4.21±3.45 days. The most common type and cause of poisoning were suicide attempt (65.3%) and drugs (65.6%), respectively. The common drugs were used including the benzodiazepines (38.9%) and narcotic drugs (18.6%). The rate of death of poisoning was 11.1%, of which 44.3% was due to aluminum phosphide.
Conclusion: Benzodiazepines and aluminum phosphide were the most common causes of poisoning and death due to poisoning in the ICU. Due to the high mortality rate, it seems necessary to provide more education and information via the media, especially in the field of aluminum phosphide hazards.
